Transport enables mobility and drives economic growth. Traffic volumes are steadily increasing in the Gulf countries calling for innovative traffic planning, engineering and management skills; key COWI competences.

Economic strength in both the public and private sectors within the Gulf Region has continued to be consolidated over recent years. This development has resulted in a further demand for personal mobility necessitating the rapid provision of transportation infrastructure and facilities.

COWI develops integrated multi modal transport systems. The transport planning includes both public and private transportation systems for road, rail, metro, light rail transit, tramways, bus transit, airports and terminals etc.

COWI has undertaken many traffic planning assignments in the Gulf Region, specifically in Bahrain, Qatar and Oman.

Using state of the art software, COWI's services include:

  • Feasibility studies including traffic forecasting, modeling, cost benefit analyses and environmental impact assessments
  • Master planning
  • Strategic and detailed traffic impact assessments
  • National and area road safety reviews and Road Safety Audits (RSA)
  • 3D visualisations

COWI contributes to these initiatives through the following specific services:

Intelligent transport systems (ITS)

Including strategic traffic management and advice on traffic signals, parking guidance, congestion management, intelligent public transport terminals and planning of operation and maintenance (O&M) 

Traffic management Minimization of traffic delays, accident risk reduction, environmental impact and provision of equal access for all road users. To help achieve these targets, COWI provides consultancy services in the design of traffic installations, traffic impact analyses, road accident analyses, road safety plans and research and development.

Master planning and traffic impact assessments We provide traffic engineering and planning related to both master planning and often in coordination with architects in order to facilitate a comprehensive, efficient and effective transport system early in proposal development.
