Reliable energy supply and development through energy planning of cooling and power is one of COWI’s key services.

Modern life is dependent on reliable energy supply. COWI specializes in energy concepts that meet this requirement, and we focus on the need for energy savings and optimization.

Our activities encompass solutions for both conventional and renewable energy sources.

A substantial part of our daily work revolves around research, development and demonstration of new energy technologies and systems.

COWI is leading within the following activities:

Energy planning and master planning COWI has a long experience in making energy master plans on national, regional, city and project level. Long-term planning of energy infrastructure is essential for moving towards a CO2-neutral energy supply.

Sustainable solar cities

COWI has designed a complete sustainable solar city for the Middle Eastern climate. The solutions are energy-efficient buildings, micro district cooling and renewable electricity.

District cooling Using district cooling will reduce the energy consumption for cooling by 20-30 % compared to individual cooling. COWI provides world-class hydraulic real-time simulation for optimal design and operation of the networks.

Energy production and desalination COWI is the leading expert in utilising surplus heat from power production. We use the heat for desalination or district cooling.

Waste-to-energy COWI designs waste-to-energy plants that produce electricity and heat. The heat is used for heat-driven district cooling or desalination.

Smart grids
COWI has taken the lead in the planning and development of smart grids, also known as intelligent power systems. Smarts grids are necessary for the future implementation of large scale renewable energy.

Renewable energy from solar and wind COWI designs wind farms and solar plants, which are the future energy sources of supply.
