COWI have undertaken major road design and construction projects within the Gulf Region, specifically in Oman, Qatar and Bahrain.

In the Gulf Region, roads must withstand harsh climatic conditions, where road surface temperatures can reach over 70 degrees Celsius and asphaltic pavements must resist deformation under heavy loading conditions

Non-availability of suitable local materials requires that performing aggregates are hauled long distances - creating further wear and tear on existing roads. In this respect, COWI, in association with the construction industry, develops sustainable pavement designs. Incorporating local materials for new construction and the reuse of existing pavements materials in the rehabilitating of existing roads.
