The story of COWI Gulf

The Government House Complex, Bahrain - COWI's first project in the region
COWI's activities in the Gulf started in the early 1970s in Bahrain with the structural restoration of the Government House complex and the Gulf Hotel. Our work portfolio quickly spread to other services and countries in the region.

We registered our first permanent establishment in Bahrain and with this as our base and using key projects successes, we opened offices in Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Today these offices work closely together and form COWI Gulf, a significant regional entity within the global COWI Group.

Our references mirror our dogma of reflecting and respecting local tradition and heritage with full consideration for the environment and society as well as climate impact and sustainability.

Projects throughout the region Our works have not been restricted to the countries where we have our permanent offices. We have worked throughout the region with Iraq being an early example where we in the 1970s and 80s were heavily involved with water supply systems and sustainable energy conscious residential developments. Today we are presently working in Kuwait, Syria, Sudan and Jordan.
